Endeavor Orthopaedics was first conceived in 2012 by Dr. Brent Norris. Frustrated with current techniques and methods for treating patella fractures, Dr. Norris started using small, locking foot fracture plates on the dorsal surface of the patella to repair the fractures while also using a small cable to off-load and neutralize the deforming forces produced by the soft tissues that he believed were critical in achieving better outcomes for patients. The improved results were significant.
Dr. Norris and the team firmly believed that a purpose-built patella implant that directly incorporates a soft-tissue (full extensor mechanism) management feature in one single implant, would improve outcomes even further, reduce cost, and increase patient satisfaction. In 2013 and 2014, Dr. Norris and the team received four patents, and Endeavor Orthopaedics was born. Endeavor’s first project was to design, develop, and commercialize a single-use, patella fracture plating system that incorporated soft-tissue management. Endeavor’s overall mission is to improve clinical outcomes, reduce the cost of care, and improve patient satisfaction. In June 2021 the Summit Patella Plating System was cleared for use by the FDA and commercial efforts started.
