An 82-year-old Caucasian female presents to your clinic with complaints of low back pain. She was referred to you by her primary care physician, and brings results from a recent DEXA scan. She is accompanied by her daughter, with whom she lives. Both the patient and her daughter cannot recall any recent trauma or falls. On physical examination, the patient is tender to palpation to the lumbar spine. Upon review of her radiographs (Figure A) and DEXA results (T-score -2.7), you prescribe her a medication that acts by inhibiting the osteoclast farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase enzyme.
