Biography

Craig A Smith, MD, is a pediatric orthopaedic surgeon at Nationwide Children's Hospital and an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at The Ohio State University. He is a member of the Center for Hip Preservation, Department of Sports Medicine, and the Center for Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He completed his residency at Mount Carmel Health Systems and fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Smith's clinical interests include pediatric hip surgery including infantile hip dysplasia, Legg-Calve Perthes, slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) as well as young adult hip disorders including hip preservation techniques for adolescent/adult hip dysplasia and femoroacetabular impingement. He has a particular interest in the utilization of hip arthroscopy in children, adolescents, and young adults. He is a member of The Ohio State University Hip Preservation Center where he performs open hip preservation surgery in young adults. As a member of the sports medicine team, he is specialized in treatment of hip, knee and ankle disorders in the young athlete. This includes both nonoperative and operative management of hip injuries, as well as ligamentous and cartilage injuries of the knee and ankle. As a member of the Center for Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction, he has a special interest in treatment of children and adults with lower extremity differences including congenital deficiencies, limb length discrepancies and other lower extremity deformities. He is a member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, PRiSM, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Columbus Orthopaedic Society, Ohio Orthopaedic Society and Central Ohio Pediatric Society.
