Biography

Dr. Alexandra (Alexe) Page has 18 years of experience as an orthopaedic surgeon in San Diego. She grew up in Colorado and graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School, followed by Orthopaedic residency and Foot & Ankle fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Her specialized training and experience includes athletic injuries which may require ankle arthroscopy such as ongoing pain after ankle sprains, ankle instability, ankle and foot tendonitis. Other common injuries include tendon tears or stress fractures. Dr. Page also treats diseases of wear-and-tear such as foot and ankle arthritis. She has published research on posterior tibial tendonitis, a problem leading to development of a flat foot in middle-aged people. Other common problems Dr. Page addresses include bunions, hammer toes, and neuromas. Dr. Page works actively on topics related to high value health care delivery and assuring all people have access to musculoskeletal (bone & joint) care. She speaks and writes nationally on the topics, frequently quoted in national publications. Nationally, she chairs the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Health Care Systems Committee and serves as orthopaedic delegation chair for the American Medical Association as well as a delegate to the California Medical Association. Dr. Page also addresses national health care issues serving on the Harvard Medical School Health Policy Advisory Council. National work on health disparities includes serving on the steering committee for Movement is Life and in the presidential line for Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society. In San Diego, Dr. Page is on the board of Champions for Health, an organization dedicated to providing health care to all in the county. She also provides pro bono care through Project Access San Diego, both as a volunteer physician and serving on the steering committee. Regionally, Dr. Page is in the presidential line of the Califonia Orthopaedic Association. Locally, she serves on the San Diego County Medical Society Board of Directors. Dr. Page has time for all these professional activities since her children have left home and she no longer gets to serve as a Boy or Girl Scout leader or as a room mom. She also now has more time for hiking and cycling, despite the fact that a bike was what led her to orthopaedics and understanding what it means to be a patient.
