Biography

Dr. Amy Garner is a Clinical Research Fellow at the MSK Lab based at the Sir Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering (BME) Hub on the White City Campus. Dr. Garner is in the final stages of her PhD investigating the patient outcomes and biomechanics associated with combined partial knee arthroplasty, she is supervised by Professor Justin Cobb; Dr. Richard van Arkel and Professor Andrew Amis. Dr. Garner undertook her primary medical degree at Oriel College, at the University of Oxford. During the First BM, Dr Garner undertook a research project at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, under the supervision of Dr Gordon MacPherson, investigating the role of dendritic cell subsets in the regulation of T cell stimulation, she went on to receive a high 2i in the Final Honours School with a focus on Infection and Immunity. During her clinical training, Dr Garner placed first in the 4th year surgical examinations and was awarded merits in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics and the final year essay. Dr. Garner undertook her foundation training in the North Central Thames deanery, gaining Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. She returned to Oxford for Core Surgical Training where she was awarded the 'Core Surgical Trainee of the Year' and 'Surgical Tutor of the Year' 2012. During core training, Dr. Garner completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, through the University of Oxford and was awarded a distinction. Dr. Garner gained a Higher Surgical Training number in the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery where she continues her training to become a Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, with a specialist interest in hip and knee replacement.
