Biography

Louis Amorosa, M.D., is a board certified orthopaedic spine and trauma surgeon. He specializes in cervical spine surgery, scoliosis surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgery. He also treats fractures, including pelvic and acetabular fractures. He offers a nonoperative approach to spine-related issues, but if necessary to restore optimal function, he performs minimally invasive and motion preserving spine surgery and avoids open fusion surgery whenever possible. He has lectured nationally and published in textbooks and peer-reviewed journals on disc replacement surgery, spinal deformity, spinal trauma, and degenerative spinal conditions as well as various aspects of orthopaedic trauma surgery. He is a retired Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve Medical Corps. He enjoys hiking, biking, gardening, piano, and time with his family. Dr. Amorosa graduated from the University of Notre Dame. After college, he spent a year in Rome, Italy, as a Fulbright Scholar. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and graduated cum laude. Following this, he completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospitals, where he was selected as chief resident in his final year. He subsequently completed an Orthopaedic Trauma fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery followed by a combined Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Spine Surgery fellowship at the Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals. He finished his training and has been an attending spine and orthopaedic trauma surgeon since 2013. Prior to joining Ridgewood Orthopaedic Group, he was an assistant professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospitals.
