Biography

Rich Craig is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in the treatment of shoulder and elbow conditions. His NHS practice is based at Milton Keynes University Hospital where he treats patients with both elective problems and acute injuries. Rich undertook his undergraduate training at Imperial College School of Medicine, London, before moving to the Oxford/Thames Valley rotation for his surgical training. Training highlights included extensive experience in upper limb surgery, major trauma management, and in the Oxford sarcoma (bone tumour) unit. Mr Craig completed his specialist shoulder and elbow fellowship at the respected unit in University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, receiving expert instruction and gaining proficiency across the full range of keyhole and major open shoulder and elbow operations, and non-operative techniques. Rich was selected to the prestigious National Joint Registry/Royal College of Surgeons research fellowship to undertake a three-year research project at the University of Oxford. He was successfully awarded his DPhil degree for his work to better understand the outcomes of shoulder and elbow surgery using routinely collected data from national datasets. He has published widely in the field, including important papers in the British Medical Journal, with a specific focus on the risks associated with surgical procedures. Rich encourages open discussion with patients about their treatment and strongly believes in the importance of shared decision-making with them. He works closely with colleagues in radiology and physiotherapy teams to provide complete care, and to use surgery only when necessary.
