Biography

Dr. Higgins is the Chief of the Sports Medicine/Shoulder Service in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Higgins completed his medical degree at State University of New York at Stony Brook School of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, and his fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at The Center for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Higgins is the Fellowship Director for the Brigham and Women’s/Massachusetts General Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship Program. He specializes in sports medicine and shoulder injuries. Dr. Higgins performs total shoulder replacements and arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee and elbow. Dr. Higgins is the Team Physician for Brookline High School. Prior to joining the staff at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Dr. Higgins was the team physician for: - Duke University - The University of Pittsburgh Athletic Teams - The Professional Football Team (NFL) the Pittsburgh Steelers
