Jan Victor, MD, PhD, was born in Roeselare (Belgium) in 1960. He received his medical degree summa cum laude from the Catholic University of Leuven in 1985, and he obtained his board certification in orthopaedic surgery in 1991. From 1991 to 1995, he was a staff member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Leuven University Hospitals. In 1995, he moved to St. Lucas General Hospital in Bruges, where he became head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2010. In 2009, he obtained his PhD on “A Comparative Study on the Biomechanics of the Native Human Knee Joint and Total Knee Arthroplasty”. In 2011, he was appointed Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Ghent University and Head of the Ghent University Hospital Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology. Professor Victor has published extensively on knee surgery and sports injuries in a large number of international peer-reviewed journals, and he is co-editor of the book “Total Knee Arthroplasty”. He is an editorial board member of Acta Orthopaedica Belgica and he serves as a reviewer for top-ranking international journals. He is also co-editor of KSSTA. Dr. Victor holds memberships in many scientific societies, including the Belgian Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (President from 2002 to 2003), the American Knee Society, ESSKA, ISAKOS, ISTA, ABA, and AAOS. He is a founding member of the Belgian Knee Society (President from 1999 to 2001) and of the European Knee Association. He is further also a member and scientific advisor of EFORT.
