Dr. James Flanagan, MD, is a respected orthopedic surgeon with board certification in the field. He specializes in a comprehensive range of orthopedic conditions and injuries, including those affecting the ankle, elbow, foot, hip, knee, and shoulder. Dr. Flanagan has particular expertise in joint replacement procedures and the management of sports-related injuries. Dr. Flanagan's educational journey began at Youngstown State University in Ohio, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He then pursued his medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas. Continuing his tenure at the institution, he successfully finished his transitional internship and orthopedic surgery residency. Since 1997, he has been an integral part of Cape Fear Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Furthermore, Dr. Flanagan serves as the chief of orthopedic surgery at Cape Fear Valley Health System. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Flanagan actively contributes to medical education and sports medicine. He serves as a team doctor for the Fayetteville Marksmen and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Dr. Flanagan is a preceptor for the Duke Medical School Residency Program and holds the position of associate professor for the Physician Assistant Program at Methodist University.
