Biography

Dr. Emily Dodwell is a pediatric orthopedic surgeon specializing in lower extremity reconstruction including treatment of limb length discrepancy, congenital and acquired deformities, and care of children with neuromuscular conditions. Dr. Dodwell also specializes in upper and lower extremity fracture care. She treats children from birth to 20 years of age and sees patients with a wide variety of problems including clubfoot, hip dysplasia, spina bifida, cerebral palsy, leg length discrepancy, Perthes, scoliosis, and gait abnormalities. Dr. Dodwell is Canadian. She completed an undergraduate degree in engineering, and then her medical doctorate at Queen's University. She completed her orthopedic residency training at the University of British Columbia and obtained her research and public health degree (MPH) at the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed her pediatric orthopedic fellowship training at the Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto. Dr. Dodwell is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Dodwell is a Clinician Scientist, Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Weill Cornell Medical College, and Director of Pediatric Orthopedic Research at HSS. She frequently lectures and mentors medical students, residents, and fellows on clinical topics and orthopedic research and has presented at multiple national and international conferences. Dr. Dodwell is the Global Outreach Liaison and is on the Medical Advisory Board for the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. Dr. Dodwell is dedicated to improving pediatric orthopedic care through orthopedic research. Her main research interests relate to surgical outcomes and disparities in health care for pediatric orthopedic patients. She is the recipient of multiple grants, awards, and honors and is the principal investigator on a number of ongoing multi-center prospective trials in pediatric orthopedic surgery. Dr. Dodwell’s approach to caring for infants, children, and adolescents involves personalized treatments, both operative and non-operative, that are supported by the latest evidence. Dr. Dodwell treats patients at the Hospital for Special Surgery and New York-Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell). She lives in Manhattan with her husband, three children, and dog.
