Biography

Dr. Privitera earned his medical doctorate from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He subsequently completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He has significant experience caring for high school, college and professional athletes. Dr. Privitera offers comprehensive treatment of all shoulder problems. He offers advanced rotator cuff surgical care including repair of complex tears, revision surgery, and biologic augmentation with Regeneten. He performs both arthroscopic and open surgery, including anatomic and reverse total shoulder replacements, and shoulder fractures. He also performs hip and knee arthroscopy for sports injuries and pre-arthritic conditions. At the pioneering forefront of biologic joint preservation for active patients with meniscus and cartilage problems, Dr. Privitera offers meniscus repair, meniscus transplant, cartilage transplant (including MACI), and corrective osteotomies. As of March 2019, Dr. Privitera is in a select group of providers FDA certified in "Collagen Meniscal Implant" in New York State. Dr. Privitera also treats chronic exertional compartment syndrome, Achilles and hamstring ruptures, and other sports injuries. ? Dr. Privitera offers complete orthopaedic evaluations. He takes the extra time to educate you about your condition. He believes a patient who understands their condition, not only is happier, but is empowered with the tools to actively get better. He has published multiple journal articles in orthopaedics, has presented nationally on multiple occasions, and offers current, evidence-based treatment options. A Rochester native, Dr. Privitera is a graduate of Pittsford Sutherland H.S. He is happily married with three wonderful boys that keep him on his feet! He enjoys being outdoors, listening to and playing music, and spending time with family and friends. He spent the last five years as a surgeon in Rochester and is privileged to join Dr. Paul Mason and the rest of the orthopaedic team at WCCHS.
