Biography

Dr. Stambough was born in Philadelphia, Penn., and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He matriculated to Cornell University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology & Society studies and earned Honors with Distinction. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and subsequently completed his orthopaedic residency at Washington University in St. Louis/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Most recently, Dr. Stambough completed his adult reconstruction fellowship at the OrthoCarolina Hip & Knee Center in Charlotte, N.C. Dr. Stambough has a clinical interest in primary and revision joint replacement using time-tested techniques and approaches as well as novel treatments for periprosthetic fractures and joint infections. He has a breadth of basic science research experience from working at the National Institutes of Health and McKay Orthopaedic Research Laboratory as a medical student. He has authored numerous publications in the Journal of Arthroplasty, Clinical Orthopaedics & Related Research, Bone & Joint Journal and other peer-reviewed journals and has given podium presentations at numerous local and national meetings. He has received several accolades and awards for his research, including earning the prestigious Mark Coventry award for his contribution to a study on patient-specific cutting guides for total knee arthroplasty. Currently, his clinical research interests include investigating cost-saving strategies and clinical outcomes in joint arthroplasty, treatments for infected joints and novel surgical instrumentation and implant application for complex joint replacement. He is an emerging leader in the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and is actively involved as a fellow member in the American Association for Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and Mid-America Orthopaedic Association (MAOA).
