Biography

Luke S. Spencer-Gardner, M.D., is a Senior Associate Consultant in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Florida. Dr. Spencer-Gardner specializes in hip surgery, and has a special interest in hip preservation, advanced arthroscopy and reconstructive surgery of the hip. He treats all disorders of the hip including hip dysplasia, femoroacetabular impingement, arthritis of the hip, avascular necrosis, tendon injuries of the hip, failed hip replacements, and hip fractures. He earned a bachelor's degree with a double major in psychology and exercise science and graduated with honors from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He completed his Doctor of Medicine degree and graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas. Dr. Spencer-Gardner received his orthopedic surgery training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a fellowship in Hip and Knee Surgery at Melbourne Orthopedic Group in Melbourne, Australia and a fellowship in Hip Arthroscopy and Anterior Hip Replacement with John O'Donnell in Melbourne, Australia. He is a recipient of the M.E. Müller Foundation of North America Fellowship in Orthopedic Hip Surgery. Dr. Spencer-Gardner competed in the world junior championships with the Australian Junior Men's national basketball team. He was team captain and remains the career assist leaders for Oral Roberts University. He was the president of the Kansas chapter of Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society and is a member of the Gold Humanism in Medicine Society. Dr. Spencer-Gardner has authored several scientific publications and book chapters in the field of hip surgery and has presented his work at national and international meetings.
