I have always had a fascination with hand, elbow, and upper extremity surgery. As a young medical student, I was captivated by hand injuries and the impact of surgical reconstruction on a patient’s quality of life. It’s amazing all of the things that we use our hands for on a daily basis, from basic functions of eating and hygiene, to complex tasks such as writing, typing, and text messaging. It was this realization during my training that made me aware of the full potential of hand and elbow surgery and fueled my desire to become an upper extremity surgeon. Throughout medical school and residency, I also developed a passion for international health and participated in several medical outreach trips in Kenya, Dominican Republic and Haiti. I believe my experiences in global health have enriched my training, expanded my cultural understanding, and enhanced my ability to provide quality care to patients.
