Biography

John J. Callaghan, MD graduated from University of Notre Dame and received his medical degree from Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Iowa and went on to a fellowship in hip reconstruction at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He is the Lawrence and Marilyn Dorr Chair at the University of Iowa. Dr. Callaghan is past president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Hip Society, and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is president-elect of the International Hip Society. He had the opportunity to be both an AOA North American and ABC Traveling Fellow. He serves as Assistant Chief Editor of the Journal of Arthroplasty. He has been visiting professor at close to 100 institutions, given over 30 endowed lectureships, and written 300 peer-reviewed publications. He has educated over 150 orthopaedic residents and has participated in over 25 Orthopaedic Learning Center courses.
