Video Description

Enchondromas are non-cancerous growths that develop in the hyaline cartilage of bones that are formed through endochondral ossification, and their exact cause is unknown. Enchondromas constitute around 3 percent of bone tumors and can make up to 13 percent of benign bone tumors. Typically, these tumors are solitary and occur in the central metaphyseal region of tubular bones. They tend to occur more frequently in the tiny bones of the hand and feet, with the femur and humerus being the next most common locations. Enchondromatous tumors commonly originate throughout childhood from residual growth plate cartilage or chondrocytes. These tumors undergo proliferation and enlargement, eventually ceasing growth but persisting into maturity.
