The Trendelenberg sign is a physical exam maneuver to test for gluteus medius weakness. The patient is asked to stand on one leg while pelvis is observed for tilt. A positive test is indicated by sagging of the contralateral pelvis, secondary to the weak abductor pull on the affected side.
