Winder et al performed a retrospective study comparing MIS vs. an open approach for posterior cervical foraminotomy. They found an MIS approach reduces blood loss, post-operative analgesic use and length of hospital stay compared to the standard open approach.

The article by Celestre et al explains in detail minimally invasive approaches to the posterior spine, the techniques for posterior cervical foraminotomy and arthrodesis via lateral mass screw placement, and anterior cervical foraminotomy.
